The way leveling works in this game, as far as I understand it; - There are 6 base stats (end, int, etc) that each control 3 skills. - You earn points for all skills passively by doing corresponding activities, listed on the skills (ex: stabbing people with a spear counts for polearms and for 1-handed or 2-handed). - Each skill has its own learning limit. Steward perks are overpowered. Discussion. A main chunk of mount and blade in my eyes is levelling your troops, and managing your troops, so when you are able to just buy gear from shops and max level all of your troops instantly it kinda breaks the game. It wouldnt be a problem if it was further along the steward perk tree but its in the early
After my 4th failed campaign, I decided to download the mod TweakLord. Which allows you to change the XP for each skill, along with other things such as max troop count, influence and renown gain, smithing stamina. I put the multiplayer at 2.5. So I will gain skill 2.5x faster. I recommend it until campaigns last as long as your character does.

But, its a very incomplete file, with skills that they didn't implement into the release. So unique and better-skilled companions are on their way. That all said, so far here are the companions I have found: Generic warriors: Tier 5/6. "the Shieldmaiden" (honest/daring/cruel), "the Red", "Coalbiter" (Cruel/Daring/Generous) -.
Keep varied food types and high morale. Having mounted companions will give them riding xp, them tournaments and bandit camps will level their athletics. Switch up their weapon types frequently. Switch them in and out as formation leaders and hit F6 to delegate command which will raise their tactics.
The big two were: Charm - prison breaks give 300xp for regular noble, 6000xp for clan leader, 9000xp for faction leader. Leadership - you get way more XP for high morale the closet you get to 100.
