Re: Comparing RF 50mm 1.8 and EF 50mm 1.4. The issue withe the 50 1.4 is that it cannot take knocks on the front even gentle ones, the focus ring goes out of shape and jams. I have the EF version of the 1.8 and it appears to be bit more robust. Yes, a well known issue with the 50 1.4.
5 days ago · The first two “crown jewel” lenses in the new lineup are the RF 28-70mm f/2L zoom and the RF 50mm f/1.2L – the second of which we will be reviewing today. I know, but what would you say about the RF 50 1.8 vs. the RF 24-70 2.8 both at 50mm and at the same aperture? I'm having a little GAS. Thanks. You can't match the performance for a L lens with a cheap lens like 50mm f1.8. The contrast, color rendition , out of focus area, flare control, etc. will be much better in a L lens.
Thanks for the reply. The weight is a factor as it's unlikely I'll want to carry it around all day on holiday. I have 35mm f/1.4II, RF 50mm f/1.2L, RF 24-70 f/2.8 and RF 70-200 f/2.8L so the plan would be to sell the 24-70 and 50mm to get the 28-70. I love the 35mm f/1.4L II which I'd only replace with an RF L version.

The new Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 isn't just a much needed nifty fifty for Canon's RF mount cameras – it's a lens that truly legitimizes the manufacturer's entire full-frame mirrorless endeavor. I was a day one adopter of the Canon EOS R, and thus Canon's entire RF system. After testing a prototype earlier in the year, I bought the original EOS R
